THE biggest day in Mat Rue’s life just got better with the young Canowindra reinsman winning today’s SEW Eurodrive Miracle Mile on outsider Baby Bling.
Brought back from Queensland where he has spent the past few months campaigning some of Luke and Belinda McCarthy’s team to handle the stable’s “third string” Miracle Mile hope, Rue drove his second perfect race of the day to make it two Group Ones from two drives . . . and a Grand Circuit success to top it all off.
In a race that has thrown up surprises all day with the late scratching of Gaius Caesar at 1:55pm by order of the stewards, Baby Bling was sent out a $33.90 outsider in the seven-horse field. more…
HE’S won two Miracle Miles and plenty of other major feature races but one race trainer-driver John McCarthy has always wanted to win is the Carousel Final.
And the former Bathurst butcher finally achieved this goal in the Lands Legal-sponsored feature at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Sunday with up-and-coming star Monifieth.
Part-owned by Kevin Jeavons of Washakie fame, it was Monifieth’s third start in Australia for McCarthy and his second win. more…
EVEN the youngsters get a piece of the action at the SEW Eurodrive Miracle Mile and three “mini” Miracles had the big crowd cheering between races.
That’s because the Midgets, Shetlands and Ponies all had mini Miracle Miles of their own on Sunday at Tabcorp Park Menangle as well.
And for most of these budding harness racing drivers, it was their first look at a mobile barrier from the “other” side and some of their horses did struggle to handle the pressure of such a big day. more…
LEADING young NSW reinsman Mat Rue dared to dream as he hopped on a flight home from Queensland on Sunday morning.
Hours later his dream had become reality when he landed his first Group One winner, scoring an all-the-way win on Lettucerockthem in the Australian pacing Gold Two-Year-Old Colts and Geldings final at Tabcorp Park Menangle.
Trainer Belinda McCarthy had a dream come true as well as she landed the Trifecta in the big race, with Lettucerockthem beating short-priced favourite All Eyes On Us (Luke McCarthy) and the well-backed Bling It On (John McCarthy). more...
COMEBACK pacer Screaman Seaman has found form at just the right time to secure a place in the Lands Legal Carousel Final on Miracle Mile Day at Tabcorp Park Menangle, April 28.
The Bernie Hewitt-trained pacer recorded the win in a sizzling 1:57.9 around Penrith Paceway over the 2125m last Thursday night.
After racing in last year’s Chariots Of Fire, the son of Armbro Operative took some time to find winning form but has now won three of his last six starts. more…
THE barrier draw for the $750,000 SEW-Eurodrive Miracle Mile wasn’t kind to visiting Kiwi Terror To Love who has drawn the widest of the eight runners.
To be held at Tabcorp Park Menangle this Sunday, Excel Stride is the favourite to win the race ($2.25) and with the removal of the two emergencies will come out of barrier six – the most successful draw over the mile at the principal track.
Meanwhile, stablemate Mach Alert is on Excel Stride’s heels as the second elect ($3.20) but has drawn wide also. more...
IF champion reinsman Luke McCarthy was in two minds about which of his semi-final winners to drive in next weekend’s $300,000 Australian Pacing Gold final for two-year-old colts and geldings, the barrier draw probably made up his mind.
Impressive winner of the second semi-final Lettucerockthem drew the perfect No 1 barrier for Sunday’s final while Team McCarthy’s other semi-final winner Ell Eyes On Us drew six, but will probably come into gate five when the two emergencies are withdrawn.
Nonetheless All Eyes On Us was the most impressive winner of the two, rating 1:54.4 to beat stablemate Bling It On in the first semi. more…
THE Belinda and Luke McCarthy machine rolled on in the second semi-final of the Australian Pacing Gold for two-year-old colts and geldings when Lettucerockthem scored an exciting win.
Having only his second start for the stable, Lettucerockthem enjoyed a charmed run with a one-one and one-back trail before overhauling the David Aiken-trained Victorian speedster Bespoke Artist in the run to the line to score in a 1:55.3 mile rate.
Another Victorian visitor Young Modern finished third. more…
THEY flopped in the Cordina Chicken Farms Sprint, yet glamour New Zealand pacers Terror To Love and Mah Sish have been invited to contest next weekend’s $750,000 SEW Eurodrive Miracle Mile at Tabcorp Park Menangle.
No doubt their form in the weeks leading up to the race was taken into account as the other six runners, Excel Stride, Mach Alert, Gaius Caesar, Chariot King, Baby Bling and Pure Power all finished either first or second in the three lead-up sprints to the glamour sprint.
Directors from the NSW Harness Racing Club took almost an hour after the Cordina Sprint to argue the merits of a myriad of Mile possibilities. more...
SOME of Australia’s most promising two-year-old colts and geldings were made look almost second rate as quality colt All Eyes On Us strolled away for a convincing victory in Saturday night’s $20,000 first semi-final of the Australian Pacing Gold series.
When leading reinsman Luke McCarthy is able to hold the lead, you know his rivals are in for a heck of a task in running him down.
And that’s exactly what he did as All Eyes On Us ($1.70 favourite) withstood an early challenge from Real Character ($81) and Blackwarrior ($37.80) to hold the front after taking full advantage of his inside draw. more…
ACE young Sydney driver Lauren Panella was smiling, but she was also hurting after scoring one of the biggest wins of her career in the $100,000 Group One Cordina Farms Sprint at Tabcorp Park Menangle.
